Hey Probabes! Your ready to build a pro reputation
Let's talk about building and maintaining a strong reputation and positioning yourself as the go to educator in your industry. Yes I said industry and not area because people WILL and DO travel for high quality courses!
So how do you do it? Here are our top 3 tips:
Communication:
Arguably an obvious area and yet still something that many do not prioritise as something that should be seamless and consistent. Students want to feel valued and supported. Good communication is going to vital in not only teaching students but onboarding them and supporting them beyond your courses. Now if your communication is inconsistent, if you are taking days to reply, forgetting to respond or providing short and vague responses it is not going to matter how AMAZING your courses are. Students rely on their educators for A LOT it's not an easy job and it can take a lot from you the educator. Therefore, it is important that you utilise all available tools to allow for consistent communication even when your not necessarily available.
Start with a detailed website, think about every question you get asked about your courses and even your services. Your website should address each of these areas. You can do this by including an FAQ section, embedding videos talking through certain aspects, showing you location on a map, writing out a step-by-step guide to the enrolment process and more. The website should allow students to easily book in for courses and be fully prepared. The more information that is readily available the easier it will be for you to manage communication.
Utilise tools such as many chat to signpost students to your website depending on the keywords they use or pre-generated questions directly in the DM's. Finally set aside protected time EVERY SINGLE WORKING DAY to admin! This will allow you to action your messages every day and avoids a massive backlog that no one wants to face.
Having systems such as these in place allows you to showcase your professionalism, expertise, attention to detail and support without the heavy reliance on direct interactions. Most importantly students are not going to be put off by your lack of or low quality communication and will get to see just how AMAZING you are.
Provide High Quality CONSISTENT Training
This goes without saying, you are not going to have a positive reputation and you definitely will not be the go to educator if your courses are subpar. As educators it is important that we do not oversell an underpromise when it comes to training.
The first step to ensuring training is of a consistent high standard is to create a lesson plan that works and use it religiously! Your first ever lesson plan should not be used forever, with experience you will know what does and does not work for your students. Tasks you planned when you first qualified may be outdated or not as beneficial as you had hoped and that's ok. Once you find your feet redo that lesson plan, sending an updated copy to your accreditor of course, and use it over and over again. You may not have to look at it as often overtime but sticking to it is going to ensure that any recommended students who enrol with you are receiving the high quality training they were told about.
There is another benefit to having a clear lesson plan and that is the ability to make reasonable adjustments to meet the needs of learners. Upon enrolment students should be asked if they have any additional learning needs. A great way to meet their needs is to share a copy of the lesson plan and ask where and how you can make adjustments to support them. This is going to make you stand out as an educator and students are going to feel that you truly care about them. In doing this students are more likely to succeed on your courses once again aiding your positive reputation.
Ensure you are using the best tools and up-skilling regularly to ensure that your courses maintain their high quality status.
Be Reflective
It is important to ensure that you are constantly reviewing your courses. This should be done in two ways the first is by using student testimonials to establish where you are absolutely smashing it and where there is room for improvement. The second is via self-reflections. We have created a self-reflection form which can be found within our Educators Hub. This will ensure that students feel satisfied with the training provision you have provided.
By doing these three small things you ensure that students see you as the go-to-educator and allows you to maintain a positive reputation as an AMAZING educator!
